ReplyDeleteSam,
ReplyDeleteIt was bound to happen eventually. We agree on the episode, at least grade wise. And how could we not? It was great. But I'll nitpick anyway, for the sake of discussion. I'm surprised you didn't find the goat montage even lamer than I did. They actually had ted fighting a goat! I know that we both expected this storyline to flop (with all those expectations, how could it not) but you seemed to enjoy it more than I did (and it didn't seem to be because of the glorious "Murder Train" callback). What was it that did it for you? Also, did my eyes deceive me, or did you call How I Met Your Mother the greatest comedy on TV? Bold words, Lindauer. I love this show more than almost anything, but when it comes right down to it, 30 Rock is the best comedy on TV (it lacks the heart, and I think I love HIMYM just a bit more, but its definitely the best). I thought we agreed on this. Have you changed your mind?-Jordan
Jordan,
ReplyDeleteWe seemed to be on pretty much the same page tonight given our identical grades (what are the odds). I found out that it is not a New Pornographers song, just AC Newman, still works very well for the scene. Wondering if you thought the jumping was as cheesy as I thought (a little bit cheesy but sweet). I could only think about the stunt people used to jump and the body doubles because half the people jumping were preggers. I think we thought this was a great episode all around and we recognized generally the same parts as being really strong. Did you not like the retelling of the goat fight, i thought it was awesome and hilarious, hilariousome. I think it was the only redeeming thing to the whole goat storyline. You were right about it not really going anywhere. i rewatched the robin and barney hospital scene again just cause it was so great. did you think when ted said "hospital" when he was on the ground it would lead to some mother related thing. i thought that was a possibility but ted becoming a teacher totally makes sense

Ok on your two things. I think i misrepresented myself. HIMYM is my favorite comedy on TV, 30 rock is the best. mistake on my part. i'm actually gonna edit my article to more accurately portray my thoughts
ReplyDeleteThe goat thing kicked ass. it wasn't what actually happend just how ted imagined it did and it was great because it was so fucking rediculous. maybe i just like seeing ted get bit by a goat
Sam,
ReplyDeleteWe are agreeing a lot tonight. We agree on the grade, we agree that 30 Rock is the best comedy on TV, and we agree that HIMYM is our favorite comedy...perhaps that's why I feel the urge to stick to my guns on the goat gag. But I'll admit it: I laughed throughout the goat montage. I just felt ashamed afterwards for laughing at what amounted to a very cheap gag and the inevitable cop out four years in the making. As for if I thought the hospital would lead to the mother, if you look at last week's review, you'll see I predicted we hadn't seen the last of Ted's job offer. I'm excited for the prospects here, as I see Ted's new job as an opportunity for us to have the best of both worlds, Ted-wise. I hope to see Ted the Douche being overly pretentious as a professor without getting in the way of Ted the Romantic in his personal life (though this may be complicated by the mother's presence in his class...). His new job is a potential goldmine if the writers play their cards right (and they almost always do). Your thoughts on Season 5 prospects? In answer to your other question, I'm sure the leap was a bit cheesy, but I was to caught up in it to care .my heart swelled, especially when Barney looked at Robin before jumping, so it may have been cheesy, but it really did move me). Also I think the writer's did a good job of showing us how these episodic...episodes throughout the season were sort of building towards something .A little contrived perhaps but hidden among all those one-shotters, we got strong development from all of the characters. Marshall got his new job, Barney grew closer to accepting love, as did Robin, and Lily...well, Lily kept a season long secret (hers is minor, but I've always maintained they under-utilize Hannigan. Her absence for the few weeks preceding that proved how essential she is to this show I think). Thoughts?-Jordan
I agree (we are agreeing at an alarming rate, also we both mentioned scrubs in our nod to the pregnancy joke) that Ted as professor could be a goldmine for protentious douchey ted. unfortuantely judging by the flash foward we dont get the glasses and hair back :( What do you think about the age of the mother, will she be significantly younger than him? Will he fuck her while she's his student? sounds like a possible arc for many episodes about whether its worth it for true love or something like that. Wadda ya think?
ReplyDelete-sam
Sam,
ReplyDeleteI think its possible that Ted will be teaching a class for adults, but even if the mother is significantly younger, I doubt Ted will bang her while she's his student. Why, you ask? Not because Ted's above it ethically (My man Mosby puts love first) but because this show has several seasons left. I bet the mother will be his student next year, but I don't know that we'll even get a look at her then. She was at the party in "No Tomorrow" but we didn't see her then, and I'm thinking we may not see her as his student either. That was a big class, and maybe ted will just run into her later in the series, with her approaching him about his class she took. I hope its more cleverly done than that, but it wouldn't surprise me if we went a while before we got another step forward on the mother front. Which is frustrating, yes, but as you know I accept it because the longer it takes Ted to find his perfect woman, the longer I get ot keep watching my favorite comedy. I also have high hopes for where Barney and Robin are headed next year, assuming of course they don't ignore their kiss and chemistry. I bet we'll get some awesome and awkward attempts at a relationship, or at least steps toward one. All in all, I can't wait for Season 5!
